Simple Recipes For A Detox Diet

A detox diet is one that promises to flush out the toxins your body has accumulated over the years. While there is some disagreement within the medical community over whether or not detoxification is needed, or if it works, enough people swear by it to make it worth looking into. However, it is very important to follow any recipes for a detox diet carefully to make sure that you get the best results from them.

A lot of people have their own methods for detoxifying, and don't think they need to follow any plan to do it. To be fair, it is possible to do it yourself, but it is always best to do it with some guidance from a qualified professional. This is because they will understand which foods are good for a detox diet and which ones will do more harm than good.

All you really need is an easy detox diet, but some people like to fast for a day or two before they start the detoxification process. During the fast they will only drink water, and maybe organic vegetable and fruit juices. It is usually safe to do this for a short while, but it isn't a good idea to do it for more than a couple of days because your body won't get enough of the essential nutrients that it requires to function at a normal level.

You should be aware that a lot of people report nausea and headaches as side effects of a detox diet. While it can be uncomfortable, it is usually just a sign that your detox diet recipes are doing their job. Just take it easy and try to rest. However, if the symptoms don't go away, or are too uncomfortable, then you should contact your doctor, just to be on the safe side. (Of course, you should consult your doctor before trying a detox diet as well.)

One detox diet recipe that people enjoy is a juice made of watercress and carrots. It is very low in calories and helps clean out your system. Another juice that is quite tasty is a combination of tomato, red pepper and coriander. This can be flavored with a dash of black pepper, basil or garlic. The key is to not go too heavy on the spices. If you want a sweeter juice, a blend of fennel and apple, or lemon and carrots hits the spot. Or, if you are feeling a bit adventurous, you can make a juice of parsley, lettuce, pears and carrots.

As you have probably gathered, a lot of detox diet recipes are juices. This is because they are absorbed quickly, contain whole foods, and help flush out the system. If you will be using a juicer at home, make only the amount of juice that you will drink right away. You want to capture the full essence of the food as soon as possible, and things such as time and light start to break down the healthy elements in those foods.
